While it’s nice to see the ol’ reliable beers and ales available, variety is the spice of life and lucky for us craft beer in Nottingham is not in short supply. We’ve put together a short list of our favourite craft beer pubs close to our short term let apartments in Nottingham to spend an evening.
If you’re looking for a decent pint, just 5-minutes’ walk from your serviced apartment in Nottingham, The Angel is a pub, microbrewery, organic kitchen and event space. Located on Stoney Street in the city centre’s historic Lace Market, the bar is fully stocked with a range of beers, ales and ciders. They specialise in vegan-friendly beer options, which can be hard to find. Their freshest beers come from in-house, with a variety of IPAs, pale ales and their very own porter brewed on-site. All of their beers are unfined and unfiltered, leaving them naturally hazy with a fuller taste. After a feed of delicious beers, you can enjoy a fully-organic menu with meat, veggie and vegan options available.
The notorious international brand started right here in the UK, has an excellent pub just 5-minutes’ walk from our short term let apartments in Nottingham. BrewDog Nottingham opened in 2012 and is based in an impressive hundred-year-old factory building. The industrial décor and style of the building’s interior is befitting to Nottingham’s industrial history with exposed brickwork, dark wood floors and ornate detailing adding to the atmosphere. The talented brewers in BrewDog have concocted thousands of innovative brews over the years and in their Nottingham branch you’ll find eighteen progressive draught beers and hundreds of bottled options; you’ll be spoiled for choice.
This quirky little pub is hidden on Hurts Yard in the city centre and offers a homely, chilled-out vibe to all patrons. You can enjoy a huge variety of beers and ales from cask, keg, bottles and cans from breweries all over the world. If beer isn’t your thing, they also offer a great range of ciders, wines, spirits and soft drinks. The bar is dog-friendly so you can bring your pooch along or you might be lucky enough to meet a new furry friend. They also have a good selection of board games to liven up your night. The Barrel Drop is part of the Magpie Brewery chain with four great Nottingham microbreweries and craft beer pubs.
Another great Magpie Brewery offering is the excellent Crafty Crow. The pub claims to ‘specialise in the best British independent brewers, distillers and vintners’, leaving us with a fascinating and eclectic array of beers, ales and other alcoholic treats. Three of their ten hand pulls are dedicated to home-brewed beers, the rest are a real ale selection on constant rotation, featuring drinks from both local and international breweries. They have an impressive food menu, incorporating their beers with produce from Nottingham’s best independent grocers, butchers and bakers.
A relative newcomer to the craft beer scene in Nottingham, The Overdraught is a spacious pub with a great selection of beers, spirits and real ales, endorsed by CAMRA. Cleverly named, the Overdraught is housed in a former NatWest Bank building. The large windows overlook the busy Canning Circus junction and the high ceiling gives a very official and airy feel. The bar itself is decorated with 2p pieces, commemorating the building's former use. Seven handpumps and fourteen craft taps supply the bar with a great selection of drinks.
